Heaptalk, Jakarta – The Covid-19 pandemic has promoted digital transformation in businesses, but in reality, accessibility of digital infrastructure in Indonesia is uneven. As a result, the transformation progress in many locations stagnated or was left behind in other areas. In order to remove this gap, Media Lintas Data created Wisat Desa, an internet technology where the distribution of data is conducted through satellite.
Indonesian Internet Provider Association (APJII) reported that from more than 70 million internet users, 41.7% is dominated by people from Java. While in other regions, the number of internet users is diminutive, for example, in East Indonesia, the number of internet users is only 2.2%. The data has vividly demonstrated a great gap between Java and other regions’ infrastructure. Even though, internet access is critical to allow the province to keep abreast with the development.
To remove this gap, a solution that enables regions can access the internet with excellent quality is required. The infrastructure development of region outsides java is able to tackle this problem, however, it will require high cost, particularly if the goal is at the stage of fiber-optic development.
In addition, the market potential for internet business across Indonesia is enormous by examining the number of Indonesia’s population. Media Lintas Data recorded that 12,548 villages in Indonesia are untouched internet access.
Furthermore, 42,166 regions have been covered by the internet, but the quality is poor. The condition becomes an obstacle for society in that region to alter their system into digital. So as the state indicates a challenge and opportunity at the same time.
This fact drove Media Lintas Data to capitalize on the situation in order to support Indonesia in digital transformation while expanding its business. The Company has created a product known as Wisat Desa, satellite-based internet services. Wisat Desa delivers data through satellite connected with VSAT, an antenna that has installed across the nation.
Media Lintas Data claimed that the Wisat Desa is the best solution to reach areas that have not covered the internet yet at an affordable price. Ahmad Sofyan, a spokesman of Media Lintas Data, said that the Company had established its infrastructure that even can span the frontier, outermost, and least developed region.
“We plan to deliver internet from upstream to downstream. We try to provide a solution to deliver internet in villages or remote area,” said Ahmad Sofyan,
However, the Company perceives that collaboration with other parties is essential to channel internet access over the nation. For this reason, the Corporate opens the partnership to any parties to present this technology in villages and remote areas.
As the business strategy, the Company stated that their business model is unique considering their regulation that allows their business partner to market the access to the people around the access area. The Company also emphasizes the collaboration between parties by providing an adjustable package aligned with the partner’s requisite.
“We are not only offering a product, but we offer the business collaboration. In this case, in business our offer is usually known as profit sharing,” stated Ahmad Sofyan.
The creation of this product is expected to benefit both the Company, their business partner, and society in regions that can obtain internet services. (WLN)
