Heaptalk, Jakarta — Huawei announced the establishment of two joint laboratories in collaboration with Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and Telkom University (Tel-U) at PT Pos Indonesia headquarters in Bandung, West Java. The launch was in commemoration of the 78th Postal and Telecommunications (Postel) Service Day.
In more detail, the ITB–Huawei xG Research Center joint lab will focus on researching the application of 5G technology for vertical industries. Meanwhile, Tel-U–Huawei Beyond 5.5G will become a research and development (R&D) center to produce the latest world-class technological innovations.
Attending the launch, Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi conveyed the importance of collaboration in accomplishing Indonesia’s accelerated digital transformation agenda in the midst of an information disruption era and advances in digital technology. “This (collaboration) aims not only to advance Indonesia’s postal and telecommunications sector but also to ensure that any development can benefit all Indonesian society,” said Budi.
The establishment of these joint labs is part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by ITB, Tel-U, and Huawei in 2022 as a joint effort to empower Indonesia’s digital ecosystem and support the achievement of the National Digital Vision. The MoU covers human resource development, digital transformation solutions and ecosystems planning, ICT infrastructure planning, and consultations that prioritize superior governance.
According to the Vice Chancellor of Telkom University Ir. Rina Pudji Astuti, these laboratories are an initiative of ICT industry players and universities to support the acceleration of digital transformation which is being led by the government. “Through this lab, those who are qualified, digitally competent, and capable of thinking innovatively, can contribute to help Indonesia play a bigger role on the global technology stage,” said Rina.
Has trained over 93,000 ICT human resources
Meanwhile, Dean of the School of Electrical and Informatics Engineering (STEI) ITB Dr. Tutun Juhana conveyed, “We appreciate Huawei as a leading ICT company that is committed to sharing knowledge and experience in realizing digital transformation in Indonesia through the establishment of this joint lab to make ITB as a center for research and innovation for society and industry.”
Vice President of Huawei Indonesia James Sun said that these laboratories are concrete manifestations of the collaboration and contribution of ITB, Tel-U, and Huawei in raising the competitiveness and capacity of the country’s digital talents. That way, Indonesia is expected to take a bigger role in the global market.
“Apart from being a center for developing ICT human resources, these labs can serve as an engine for digital economic growth through its latest innovations so that it can have a big impact on society. Strengthening digital talent capacity will support the continuity of digital transformation in Indonesia,” uttered Sun.
Previously, Huawei had provided training to more than 93,000 ICT human resources in developing digital capacity and competence. The ICT infrastructure and smart devices provider targets to collaborate with 100,000 digital talents who will become significant pillars in digital transformation to achieve the Golden Indonesia Vision 2045.
