Astra Honda Motor (AHM) is one of the companies that demonstrates the advanced progress to the industrial revolution 4.0.
David Budiono, the Production Engineering and Procurement Director of PT. Astra Honda Motor (AHM) stated that the Company is persistent to stand up with the Industrial Revolution. AHM is incessant to implement the revolution through digitalization as the results obtained present the Company’s commitment that constantly sought to improve the efficiency level in order to attain the enhancement of the production number and reduce the risk of work accidents for its employees.
David, moreover, added that for AHM, digital transformation in the manufacturing field is not solely a turning process from manual to automatic, but the way, accommodated by technology, to revolve the business industry through the newest technology, such as learning machine, artificial intelligence (AI) and internet of things (IoT).
In terms of implementation, AHM claimed the company has conducted this transformation through the AHM AI production and the AI involvement in its manufacturing process through IoT. In the process of AI creation, the Company put smart sensor devices to the machines to collect required data and parameters, both in internal and external machines.
The data, further, were integrated with the other data from the machines that run a similar process. AHM carried out this action to compare the data and obtain the most efficient working process, as the result, the machines that delivered the best performance can be set as learning machines.
Looking forward, AHM has integrated data from one to the other processes to generate big data. Big data has inputted into the analytic system thus AI was launched and successfully control operation manufacturing. The Company has disseminated learning machine creation, big data collection, and AI in every part of AHM company through IoT to achieve the streamlined production that improves the Company’s competitiveness.
The adoption of the digital transformation inside AHM production enhanced efficiency up to 30%. The implementation of industry revolution 4.0 allows AHM to reduce the person in charge of crucial manufacturing, warehouse, and assembling processes. The firm promotes the shifting of humans to machines, however, it succeeds to maintain its human capital by bursting the employee’s capability through education and training. The employees were moved and assigned to the new divisions that enlarge in the line with the Company’s development, such as the material development and 3D design division.
Behind its success story, to embody industrial revolution 4.0, the Corporate has been through many obstacles, the people’s knowledge limitation grew as one of the examples. The employees started to put sensors as the tool to collect data in many machines without set the objective of the data collection, thus data utilization does not run optimally.
