Heaptalk, Jakarta — Twitter X reportedly experienced a network outage. Users could not refresh their timelines, post tweets, retweet, or like content on the platform, on Monday. (10/3)
Some service users encountered an error message from Cloudflare stating, “The web server returned an unknown error.”
In response to the issue, Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter X, stated, “There is (still) a massive cyber attack on Twitter X.” He added, “We are attacked every day, but this one was carried out with significant resources. It’s either a large, coordinated group or a nation-state involved.”
During a press briefing, Musk also mentioned that the company is still uncertain about the exact nature of the attack. However, he claimed that the attack originated from IP addresses in Ukraine, as Variety reported on Tuesday. (11/3)
Musk assured users that he is committed to improving the security of Twitter X to ensure that customers continue to feel safe and comfortable using the social media platform. For context, Musk is a billionaire tech executive who has become a close ally of former President Donald Trump. He currently heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) at the White House, which has recently laid off thousands of U.S. government employees and shut down several federal programs.
Musk, also the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, acquired Twitter in October 2022 in a deal worth $44 billion and laid off approximately 80% of its staff. This incident highlights Twitter X’s ongoing challenges in maintaining its platform’s security and reliability amidst increasing cyber threats.
