Heaptalk, Jakarta – PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk. (IDX: WIFI) or Surge is accelerating the development of a fiber-optic network along the railroad tracks belonging to PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero). The construction of this network is intended to provide a quality internet service that is affordable and available in large capacity for local telecommunication and internet businesses along the railroad tracks. In addition, other benefits are expected to reach the people and MSMEs living near the network line (the Java Railway line).
The construction of fiber optic will reach a total of 2.800 kilometers along the railway line on the Java island. The first phase will be focusing on the Jabodetabek and Greater Bandung areas as the first target that takes 45 km.
According to the Ministry of Communication and Information, only 36.03% of villages and 63.02% of sub-districts from all over Indonesia have been passed by the fiber optic cable network. With the pandemic pushing digital activities at home to become more prominent, people need a more stable and affordable internet network. Moreover, SMEs are also facing significant challenges at this time.
CEO Surge, Hermansjah Haryono said until now, Surge has succeeded in building 45 km for the Jabodetabek and Greater Bandung railway areas. “The first phase construction of the fiber optic is Surge‘s initial commitment to support the community’s quality of life through connectivity, where this year we are focusing on development in Java. ”
The connectivity line will also pass through the Cikarang industrial area and be interconnected to the data center facilities completed in mid-June this year. Also, it will pass through the residential areas, MSME centers, even small towns and villages in Central Java. Hermansjah hopes this step can be used by the community and local businesses to encourage economic growth through digital transformation.
Still, internet access construction will also pass through residential and residential areas, MSME centers, even small towns and villages in Central Java surroundings. We hope that this step can be used by the community and local business actors to encourage economic growth in the region through digital transformation, ”
Surge has realized the implementation of fiber-optic where it has passed some areas of the first phase, including the Duren Kalibata Station line with the Tanjung Barat Station. Then 8 (eight) stations on the Bandung Raya line between Ciganea Station, Purwakarta Regency and Sasaksaat Station, West Bandung Regency. The company is also in the completion stage on the Manggarai Station and Cikarang Station lines. The Manggarai Station and Cawang Station lines are targeted for completion in mid-June this year. This focus was carried out considering the significant need for high-quality connectivity from the widespread construction of data centers by corporations in the Cikarang industrial area.
High connectivity in five construction phase
Since the end of 2019, Surge has collaborated with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) to construct fiber optics along 2,800 km long railroads or at 24 stations located in 9 KAI operational areas. The Surge development of fiber-optic is designed to improve a high-speed and stable data infrastructure network on Java island, facilitating internet connectivity with a vast bandwidth capacity (the maximum amount of data sent via an internet connection within a certain period, up to 15,000 Gbps). The bandwidth capacity is presented based on a feasibility study conducted by Surge with PT KAI by estimating bandwidth requirements in Indonesia in the next ten years based on multiple points of presence, namely every city and station passed on the islands of Java and Sumatra.
“In addition to providing quality but affordable internet connection for the community and MSME players, from a business perspective, we are very open to collaboration with various parties who share the same mission to accelerate digital transformation in Indonesia. Besides facilitating internet provider companies, data centers, or offices that have some branches between cities, Surge also provides additional bandwidth and facilities data center in Cikarang so that customers can improve the quality of service directly to users and communities in surrounding cities. It is also beneficial for those who want to rent fiber optic cables with closer distance, more stable connection, and competitive cost. Our devices can provide from 10 to 100 GB of bandwidth depending on the estimated customer demand,” added Hermansjah.
The company divides the development phase into five. The first phase will reach 255,5 kilometers, including the Manggarai – Bogor, and Manggarai – Cikarang routes and some areas in DKI Jakarta. The second phase with total 153,34 kilometers covering Cikarang – Bandung. The third phase total 742 kilometers covering Cikampek – Semarang – Surabaya and Merak – Rangkas Bitung. The fourth phase total 698 kilometer covering Bogor – Sukabumi – Bandung – Jogjakarta and Cirebon – Cilacap. And the last phase total 885 kilometers covering Jogjakarta – Surabaya – Solo, Surabaya – Malang, and Surabaya – Banyuwangi.
Thus, through this digital ecosystem accomplished with three essential factors: daily needs, media and entertainment, and connectivity, Surge continues to respond to needs and create more excellent opportunities for business players during low broadband network penetration. Commuter line users in Jabodetabek have previously enjoyed this Surge service through free wifi services, and now they can experience more exciting applications (cooperated with Surge). For example, the Linipoin loyalty application, the LaperNih food delivery, the Jak Lingko transportation application, and KAI Access to the SobatTani harvest marketing application.
“These various services will integrate programmed digital advertising with free wifi and fiber optic cable support. We are very open to collaboration with various parties such as central and local governments, Internet Service Providers, data center owners, startups, telecommunications, and other internet companies to take advantage of Surge‘s network jointly. In addition to supporting business growth, we hope that the construction of a fiber-optic network will also make a real contribution as well as improve the quality of life for the local community and MSMEs,” concluded Hermansjah.
