The digital competitiveness score in the EV-DCI 2023 has reached 38.5 points, with the highest provincial score, Jakarta (76.6 points), and the lowest score, Central Papua (23.3 points)
Heaptalk, Jakarta — East Ventures released the Digital Competitiveness Index (DCI) 2023 report, the 4th edition since the first launched in 2020. In collaboration with Katadata Insight Center and PwC Indonesia, the venture capital firm presents the measurement of Indonesia’s digital competitiveness with the theme “Equitable Digital Nation.”
During the opening remarks, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of East Ventures, Wilson Cuaca, revealed the digital adoption has been more equivalent in overall provinces in the archipelago – except the new provinces – according to East Ventures’ observation for four years in a row. By this result, Wilson believes that this digital equalization would be a powerful foundation for future Indonesia‘s digital infrastructure, driving the nation to continue growing new digital innovations, specifically in remote areas.
“With the strong and equitable digital infrastructure, the enhancement of innovations in all sectors that are inclusive and sustainable, and the support of the whole stakeholders, from investors, founders, startups, consumers, private companies, to Indonesian State Owned Enterprises (SOEs), we are moving more quickly and closer in achieving an equitable digital nation,” added Wilson. Appreciating the launch of this report virtually, Indonesia‘s Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, expects the digital economy would be more inclusive, agile, and sustainable to facilitate society in taking advantage of this digital enhancement. Within the goal of developing the 2022 – 2030 digital economy, Airlangga believes that comparable digital improvement can achieve Indonesia’s vision in 2045.
Indonesia’s digital ecosystem equitability continues to burgeon
Providing the output across 38 provinces and 157 cities/regencies in Indonesia, East Ventures – Digital Competitiveness Index (EV-DCI) 2023 shows the positive trend related to digital competitiveness throughout Indonesia‘s regions. According to the result, the score of digital competitiveness in the EV-DCI 2023 has reached 38.5, compared to the former 35.2 (2022) and the previous two years, which was 32.1 (2021).
Furthermore, the Director of Katadata Insight Center, Adek Media Roza, explained that the digital competitiveness growth was also faced in provinces outside the top 10. The improvement in the median value for four consecutive years illustrates increased digital competitiveness, particularly in middle and lower-ranking provinces.
The province with the highest EV-DCI 2022 score is still occupied by Jakarta, with a score of 76.6. Meanwhile, the report discloses the second and third positions were filled by West Java (62.2) and Yogyakarta (54.2). On the other hand, Central Java is back in the top ten (48.1). Also, North Sumatera entered the top ten position with an increase in score of 5.7.
However, the spread value or the gap between the highest provincial score, Jakarta (76.6), and the lowest score Central Papua (23.3), for the latest EV – DCI 2023 report of 53.2, compared to the preceding year of 48.3. Nevertheless, this improvement in the spread was not due to the worsening equity of digitalization but the expansion of the provinces of Papua and West Papua.
