By appointing Budi Arie as Indonesia’s tech Minister, Jokowi expects the Minister can resolve digital ecosystem obstacles, such as AI, cloud, and BTS projects.

Heaptalk, Jakarta — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, has officially appointed Budi Arie Setiadi as Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Informatics (Menkominfo) in the Indonesia Maju Cabinet at the State Palace, Jakarta. (07/17)

The appointment of Budi Arie as tech Minister of Indonesia was based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Number 62/P of 2023 concerning the Appointment of the Minister of Communication and Informatics to the Indonesia Maju Cabinet for the 2019-2024 Period dated 14 July 2023.

“I swear that I will be loyal to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and will carry out all matters of laws and regulations as strictly as possible for the sake of the nation and the state. I will carry out the position’s duties, uphold the office’s ethics, and work responsibly,” Budi affirmed in his oath.

Furthermore, during the meeting with the media, Budi expressed his optimism in helping President Jokowi to build the communications and informatics sector in implementing digital infrastructure, controlling digital platforms, and strengthening ecosystems and digital talent, as the main obstacles that Indonesia’s Tech Ministry faces.

Regarding the digital ecosystem, Minister Budi elaborated on the two matters concerning the development of digital infrastructure and coordination with its ecosystem. Besides, he also considers that the digital ecosystem still possesses numerous obstacles related to IoT technology, cloud computing, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

According to him, AI is one of the challenges that the archipelago must advance. For this reason, he realizes the importance of strengthening the Data Scientist practitioners as the primary asset for developing AI technology in the future.

“We will also strengthen the contribution of the Deputy Minister to accomplish multiple matters that Indonesia must complete related to digital sovereignty, artificial intelligence, frequencies, and satellites,” added Jokowi.

Besides strengthening AI and other new technologies that continue to increase, President Jokowi also hopes Minister Budi will complete the Base Transceiver Station (BTS) project due to this project involves serving the community in urban and rural areas across Indonesia.

“We only have about 1.5 years, and that is relatively short. I also look forward to the Ministry of Communication and Informatics prioritizing completing the BTS project. Don’t let this project be abandoned due to ongoing legal issues,” affirmed President Jokowi after the appointment agenda.
