Pertamina will build supporting facilities for the sustainable energy research center, such as conference halls, office and business buildings, hotels, community centers, and hospitals.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Pertamina is collaborating with Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) to establish the Pertamina Sustainable Energy Center at IKN, specifically in planning area 5.
The memorandum of understanding on the collaboration was signed by the President Director of PT Pertamina Nicke Widyawati and the Head of the OIKN Bambang Susantono on September 22, 2023, in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, witnessed by President Joko Widodo and several ministers.
This research center will accommodate a number of facilities owned by Pertamina, such as a sustainability academy, training institute, and research and innovation center for sustainable and low-carbon technologies. Other facilities that will complement this research center include the Pertamina vocational education center, shared green infrastructure, laboratory, and sustainability startup hub.
The development plan is one of this energy SOE’s efforts to prepare future generations who are capable of producing green energy innovation and technology. Further, this measure is expected to support Indonesia’s achievement of net zero emission (NZE) target by 2060.
Utilizing the natural potential of IKN
President Director of PT Pertamina Nicke Widyawati said, “Pertamina Sustainable Energy Center is a step to support the Government’s 2060 NZE program, in which Pertamina develops a research, green and low carbon technology center for Indonesia.”
Further, the SOE will develop a nature-based solution (NEBS) project to utilize the natural potential of IKN in forest areas for conservation, restoration, and sustainable ecosystem management. By using energy from forests, the IKN area is expected to contribute negative emissions to accelerate the NZE target.
Nicke added that Pertamina’s program at IKN is also to prepare the competence of professional workers in the green energy industry. She said, “Pertamina Sustainable Energy Center will be a research and education center that focuses on developing green, low carbon, and new renewable energy industry, by collaborating with global companies and various universities in the world.”
In the development stage, Pertamina will build supporting facilities in the form of community hubs, including conference halls, office and business buildings, hotels, community centers, and hospitals.
