Heaptalk, Jakarta — Gapai, an Indonesian job-search startup, has obtained a new USD1 million (around Rp16 billion) investment, led by Wavemaker Partners. Other investors, covering Antler and angel investors, also back this investment round.
The startup plans to utilize this seed injection and its robust technology infrastructure to enhance international job placement service. This strategic move is set to transform migrant work placement experiences abroad, promising enhanced convenience, velocity, and transparency.
According to Gapai’s CEO, Raditya Susilo, Antler, and Wavemaker are global venture capitalists specializing in investing in early-stage startups in Southeast Asia. The investment from Wavemaker and Antler reflects confidence in Gapai’s growth potential in revolutionizing the channeling of migrant work between countries.
Refers to the national data for 2020 -2023, the report disclosed a 7x enhancement in cases of illegal trafficking among migrant workers from Indonesia. Further, the data also revealed that around 1,800 people fall victim to illegal work placements in various countries.
To resolve this issue, Indonesia’s Gapai focuses on filtering the candidates by conducting interviews and upskilling training provisions devoted to Indonesia’s talents to prepare them to fulfill the international labor market demand.

Further, since obtaining early-stage funds from Antler, Gapai has also developed its network of 12,000 qualified workers. In its business performance, this startup has noted that its business grew ten times last year compared to 2022.
Looking ahead, Gapai is committed to maintaining its robust business growth. The startup will focus on expanding its presence in 15 international markets, including Europe (Hungary, Romania, Germany, and the United Kingdom), Asia-Pacific (Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan), and the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar). By 2024, Gapai aims to connect 70,000 Indonesian workers with international opportunities, showcasing their skills on a global stage.
