The Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia selected three small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to participate in the prestigious Gulfood Expo in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on February 21-25, 2021.

This activity is in partnership with Madeinindonesia.com, a startup in Indonesia that provides an e-commerce platform to help the export market for domestic producers, wholesalers, and suppliers. Apart from food and beverage companies, government representatives from various countries are also scheduled to attend this event.

The three UKM are Mahorahora Bumi Nusantara (Mahorahora), CV Maher Agri, and Gunung Luhur Berkah Cooperative. They will exhibit their products, namely food, and beverages, during the event within five days. It is hoped that the three SMEs’ participation in the food exhibition in Dubai can stimulate local SMEs to enter the international market to encourage future export growth.

Mahorahora will showcase its flagship food products in the form of palm sugar, spices, and cashews. Meanwhile, Maher Agri and Koperasi Gunung Luhur will introduce their coconut oil, pepper, and coffee products.

The exhibition in Dubai will be attended by thousands of business people from 85 countries. It is estimated that around 100,000 people will visit the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Center during the exhibition.

“We are grateful that we find the way to introduce us to the madeinindonesia.com team so that we can synergize with [startups] which are committed to helping Indonesian SMEs to develop and be professional in doing business,” said M Taufiq Adzani from CV Maher Agri.

Deri Arisandi, a representative from the Gunung Luhur Berkah Cooperative, said that this exhibition helps the company introduce products to the international market and establish communication with potential buyers through business matching activities.

Dubai is an opportunity for Indonesian SMEs

As we know, Dubai was transformed into the most modern country in the Middle East region. By being a cosmopolitan city and changing as one of the busiest trading centers in the world. Reporting from the Economictimes, Dubai people’s income reaches more than the US $ 21,000.

So it is not surprising if most of the imported products are absorbed by the local market. To accommodate its people’s needs, the Dubai city government is holding a leading international event, namely Gulfood 2021, which is intended for the food and beverage industry in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, otherwise known as the MEASA region.

This exhibition will provide opportunities for developing companies to reach new markets and increase brand awareness. Apart from that, this event is an excellent opportunity for the participants because Dubai does not only consist of local people but foreign tourists.

It is recorded that the number of foreign tourists who enter Dubai reaches 6 million tourists per year, where this number is five times the number of local Dubai residents. So we can be sure that consumers who will be acquainted with the products offered are huge in number and have the opportunity to tell their colleagues in their home countries.

Madeinindonesia.com sees this as a momentum to play its role as an enabler for Indonesian products. So that through this cross-country business-to-business (B2B) platform, local Indonesian MSMEs can have a broader vision to explore cooperation at the international level with various parties, including the government and the private sector.
