In his opening speech of Indonesia EBTKE ConEx, Minister Arifin stated that renewable energy utilization has only reached 0.3% of the total potential.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Arifin Tasrif opens the new renewable energy event, the 11th Indonesia EBTKE ConEx 2023, yesterday (7/12). In his speech, he highlighted the urgency of achieving net zero emission (NZE).
“We realize the impact of these emissions generates a global warming impact. Therefore, various countries have committed to achieving the NZE target by preparing regulations to encourage, compel, and fine. If the carbon trading and taxation mechanism is implemented, other countries with their unaccomplished target will be burdened with production expenditures, especially for industries in our country,” affirmed Arifin.
He added that Indonesia aims to achieve Net Zero Emissions (NZE) in 2060 or sooner. For this reason, Arifin encourages all parties to carry out various steps for this energy transition by utilizing clean and renewable energy in the archipelago, which has been structured in the energy-related RPLT program. With technological infrastructure contribution, Indonesia can channel all potential renewable energy sources between islands, expecting to be distributed evenly in the archipelago.
Arifin conveyed that various renewable energy from multiple sources in Indonesia had reached 12,602 Megawatts (MW), consisting of Solar (300.9); Hydro (6,693.3); Bioenergy (3,088.4), Wind (154.3), Geothermal (2,365.4), Sea (0). This utilization has only reached 0.3% of the total potential from the output. This matter unlocks the opportunity for renewable energy development among the existing issues in the environment, climate change, and electricity consumption enhancement per capita.
To achieve the renewable energy mix target, Indonesia’s Minister of ESDM has a map related to the location of various energy sources that can be used. In addition, the government has also made several policies currently in the finalization stage of discussing the Problem Inventory List (DIM). With these several efforts, Arifin hopes the draft energy law will facilitate business players in the renewable energy sector.
