Heaptalk, Jakarta — A Unicorn new retail F&B startup, Kopi Kenangan, has officially opened its first outlet in Suria KLCC, Malaysia (10/17). The opening of this early branch in Malaysia is a part of the company’s step in performing its business expansion globally.
This new branch was inaugurated by the CEO and Co-Founder of Kopi Kenangan, Edward Tirtanata, and witnessed by Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, virtually and Deputy for Marketing of the Ministry of Tourism, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, directly.
Appreciating this F&B brand to broaden its business globally, Minister Sandi stated the presence of the international outlet of Kopi Kenangan located in Suria is expected to be a place to promote tourism and the creative economy in Indonesia effectively, mainly through the culinary sector.
“Responding to the President of Indonesia’s instruction, we must perform multiple better product innovations and capture a huge market potential by amplifying the culinary storefront internationally. As a part of Indonesia’s severity in developing the Indonesia Spice Up the World program, we have inaugurated the opening of Kopi Kenangan’s new branch in Malaysia,” added Sandi.
Perceiving a high interest of Malaysian towards the foods, a stable coffee culture enhancement, specifically for the grab-and-go business model, Edward has determined to launch the early Kopi Kenangan branch in Malaysia. He also observed that Indonesia and Malaysia still possess similar behavior in the form of taste and high interest in trying something new.
On the other hand, the team also realizes Malaysia’s food and beverage sector is quite promising as the country is implementing a high-income digital economy with a primary focus on digitalization, aligned with the Kopi Kenangan business concept.
In response to the launch of this new outlet, the Chief Business Development and Co-Founder of Kopi Kenangan, James Prananto, affirmed this brand would operate under the name of Kenangan Coffee – an international brand used outside Indonesia. He further revealed the team aims to focus on the Kenangan keyword, expecting to leave a memorable taste for the customers in Malaysia.
Besides this initial outlet in Suria KLCC, the team plans to augment the four new branches in MyTown Cheras, Pavilion KL, NU Sentral KL, and Sunway Pyramid PJ at the end of 2022. This brand will also establish Kenangan Academy, located in Uptown, PJ, to present several training programs devoted to the barista and employees, with a mission of making the center of professional training in the most prominent food and beverage industry in Malaysia.
Aligned with the company goals of serving the best quality of its customers, Kopi Kenangan will team up with Mikael Jasin, the World’s 7th Best Barista in 2021, as a Head of Coffee who will share his precious experience and knowledge in choosing the most excellent coffee beans for a deserving drink of consumers.
During the brand journey in the F&B industry, Kopi Kenangan became the first Unicorn Retail in Southeast Asia after seizing its Series C round worth USD96 million, or approximately Rp1.3 trillion, on January 2022. This achievement has generated total funding reached USD240 million since its inception in 2017.
