Heaptalk, Jakarta — The rapid growth of the digital ecosystem has increased cyber companies to create strict security in the financial fields. Despite the transactions’ easiness, digital financial platforms are still the primary target for phishing crimes.
The Kasperksy report revealed that the risk of phishing cases in this sector reached 47.08% from February to April 2022. This result is based on anonym data recorded by Kaspersky anti-phishing system that was collected from the trigger of deterministic components in users’ devices. This component also can detect phishing content from all pages accessed.
Kaspersky’s General Manager in Southeast Asia stated, “The presence of Super Apps in Southeast Asia can also bring the presence of phishing attacks on an unexpected level. We find the potential for hackers to target Super Apps by executing social engineering attacks. Thus, we urge the technology financial companies to implement the safer infrastructure and provide education regarding these issues for its users periodically,”
Moreover, as reported by the Kaspersky statistics, several financial entities have encountered phishing threats, containing the banking sector at 4.38% and the payment system at around 34.85% in February 2022. Simultaneously, online stores’ existence also experienced phishing attacks of 15.66% in April this year. These outcomes can be linked with the enhancement of the digital payment transaction value by up to 41.35%, based on the Bank Indonesia report.
In response to the issue, the Indonesian Territory Manager of Kaspersky, Dony Koesmandarin, also revealed that Indonesian keep trying to access the sites containing phishing threats by 7.70%. However, Dony also claimed that Kaspersky has managed to block around two million phishing cases in Indonesia in 2021.
“A lack of people’s knowledge in detecting phishing crimes can also determine the increase of this issue. We perceive companies and customers are still the main targets for phishing threats. I look forward to having good cooperation from the entire stakeholders in eradicating the cases. Also, I expect companies from diverse sectors to educate their internal employees by providing comprehensive insights.” Dony in his closing statement.
