“I realize all entities worldwide have the same concern about AI technology. But for sure, we cannot move backward. For this reason, Indonesia’s government is currently reviewing the need to regulate the use of AI to be more optimal.”
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) continues working with several institutions and partners in diverse sectors to delve into regulating Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption to avoid multiple crucial issues.
Besides containing a positive impact on efficiency, Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Tech, Nezar Patria, delivered that AI implementation also has numerous negative consequences to be resolved. However, Nezar further claimed that this regulatory review is not intended to hinder innovation but rather as an anticipatory measure for possible risks.
“In this case, Indonesia’s government will monitor the development of AI adoption, and we are optimistic. For example, with technological developments, we will pay close attention to the negative impacts that will occur,” added Nezar.
As it is known, the government observed that AI enhancement is projected to continue to perform a positive trend, with an estimated growth of up to 27% by 2027 in the archipelago. Furthermore, the value of AI investments will continue to increase, reaching around US$7 billion.
In a review of making regulations on the implementation of AI technology, the government highlighted several issues that need attention resulting from AI, such as the potential for wrong content and misinformation. According to him, AI technology must constantly be monitored to avoid erroneous results of the resulting analysis.
On the other hand, Vice Minister Nezar also highlights privacy and confidentiality point. According to his perspective, the overall data and information that AI technology stores also allow for the issues of an entity’s privacy and confidentiality protection.
“The adoption of AI also has the potential to impact copyright infringement. A lot of the author’s data, images, and sounds are crawled by Generative AI, which creates results crawled by AI technology. In this context, I see that some elements are violated in the works taken by AI, one of the adverse effects that we must anticipate. ” Vice Minister affirmed.
Nezar also revealed that understanding human values and challenges to orders are other issues that must be considered. According to him, AI requires the ability to translate user commands to be more productive. Apart from giving clear instructions, he said AI assistance’s harmless and helpful limits also needed to be reviewed.
