Heaptalk, Jakarta – Indonesia’s President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo delivered a positive response regarding Papua New Guinea’s interest in comprehending Indonesia’s downstream programs for mineral products.
“Regarding mineral products, both Indonesia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) are gifted with abundant resources, but PNG is willing to learn our method in managing Nikel stock yield which has brought the added value of 30%, and we are so open for this,” stated Jokowi in a written statement. (07/06)
The President, further, revealed that cooperation is critical for advancing both countries, particularly for Global South.
For additional information, Jokowi is intensively fostering a good relationship with PNG and Australia to strengthen the economic sector as well as reduce conflict caused by Free Papua Movement. From an economic perspective, a good relationship with PNG can be realized to develop an economic zone on the borderline. This step is projected to have great trade value.
The total trade value between Indonesia and PNG attained USD307 million which comes from Indonesia’s export value of USD244 million and PNG’s export of USD63 million. From this data, Indonesia bags a surplus of USD181 million.
