Heaptalk, Jakarta — Udemy, an online learning and teaching marketplace, announced its growth in Indonesia with business-to-business partnerships. This expansion comes on the hill of launching the Udemy Business on the Indonesian version in June 2021.
In this version, multiple courses on trending topics and skills taught by real-world experts are delivered in Indonesian. As a result, the action removes the need for dubbing or subtitles while localizing and enhancing the experience for both learners and instructors.
Refers to 2020 World Bank Group’s report, the state of EdTech in Indonesia has had significant improvements over the past 15 years. In particular, gains have been made in terms of improving access to education, as well as educational attainment.
The same report stated that the labor force’s quality of skills, particularly that of high-skilled professionals and managers, is a key concern. Firms reporting difficulties in hiring managers and high-level employees experience a 50 percent decrease in employment growth, while difficulties in finding employees with foreign languages, or technical, leadership and management skills are correlated with weaker firm performance and lower productivity among Indonesian firms.
Head of Indonesia Market at Udemy, Giri Suhardi, voiced, “The business landscape is changing rapidly. The lifespan of skills is shrinking. What we learn today might be relevant only for a few years ahead. New technologies, new tools, and new methodologies keep emerging, evolving the existing business processes. It becomes crucial for individuals and organizations to keep equipping them with new knowledge through affordable and flexible skill development.”
Due to the pandemic, many companies in Indonesia started using online learning massively as part of their learning & development programs. Udemy supports Indonesian companies through fresh, relevant, and on-demand course collections to develop and strengthen their employees to achieve their business outcomes and stay competitive. Udemy is working with more than 11,600 companies across the world, including Kereta Api Indonesia, LinkAja, Samudera Indonesia, and many more.
“Having a highly skilled and agile workforce has long been considered the strongest competitive asset for Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI). Working with upskilling providers such as Udemy Business to fulfill our staff’s lifelong learning needs allows us to reach our goal of having the most vital competitive asset. Thus, KAI will be able to continue giving our best services to the customers,” said Tiven Ronikko, Manager E-learning of KAI.
Recently, Udemy announced its growth in the Asia-Pacific region, including Udemy Business expanding its global footprint with a number of enterprise customers across regions and deploying 9,000 international courses in 13 local languages, including more than 300 courses in the Indonesian language. By leveraging the international collection, employees have the choice to learn in Indonesian-language courses, English courses, or choose from 12 other international languages. Thus, the learning process is personalized based on their needs and ensures understanding.
