Heaptalk, Jakarta — Organizing startup conference and exhibition, BUMN Startup Day, has been officially opened from September 26th to 28th, 2022, at Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD, Tangerang.
In accordance to Indonesia’s Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE), Erick Thohir, in his opening remarks (27/09), this expo is a part of the Ministry’s effort in collaboration with the SOE parties and SOE’s Venture Capital to enhance the digital economy of Indonesia, aligned with the intention of President of Republic of Indonesia, Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo.
Erick added, “As delivered by our President, Jokowi in 2019, the digital economy is one of the driving factors for the economy in Indonesia. On the other hand, we noticed that the digital economy enhancement is predicted to attain 40% or equal to Rp4,500 trillion in 2030. This outcome indicated that Indonesia would lead the position as the most significant digital economic growth in Southeast Asia,”
Realizing the Indonesia’s vast young population – aged <35 years old – that dominated 54% of the country’s total population, Erick believes that Indonesia contains a considerable market and human resources potential. Young generation also becomes a sustainable factor between Indonesia’s digital economy and human resources. For this reason, he looks forward to this sector could be bolstered entirely by several parties.
Through the BUMN Startup Day, Erick elaborated his party will play a critical role in capturing the enormous advantages of Indonesia’s digital economy potential to support the rising creators in creating plenty of job opportunities. Simultaneously, he believes this event will incorporated in a digital economy ecosystem with robust synergy and a beneficial impact.
As a part of the Ministry’s endeavor, Erick mentioned the SOE would continue to innovate by establishing an ecosystem through the Digital Tribe as a yearly digital acceleration program. On the other hand, he revealed that State-Owned Enterprise had possessed several Venture Capital (VC), spanning Mandiri Capital, BRI Ventures, MDI Ventures, Telkomsel, and the latest BNI Ventures that has invested in around 336 startups in Indonesia.
In this three-day event, numerous parties has participated in the BUMN Startup Day, consisting of 150 exhibitors and 250 startups that have been curated by 12 groups from the SOE ecosystem. At the same time, around 22 SOE and five venture capitals also have attended to this event to discover multiple business potentials that have been showcased through business matching.
“BUMN Startup Day is expected to stimulate the social proximity between SOE entities and startup practitioners. In addition, I also hope for the Government’s support to make this event strongly impact the advance of Indonesia’s digital economy,” Erick said in his closing speech. (09/26)
