Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s edutech Binar Academy seizes undisclosed new funding from multiple strategic investors, including basketball player NBA Jeremy Lin, Blue7, JN Capital and Growth Advisory, Scala Group, DGS, and MD Capital. The startup will allocate the injection to reorganize the company to achieve profitability.
According to the Founder and CEO of Binar Academy, Alamanda Shantika, job opportunities in the technology industry are increasingly varied as technology develops and have relatively large salary opportunities compared to other jobs. However, he views the salary range for tech jobs in the archipelago as still relatively low compared to other Southeast Asian countries.
“This matter aligned with the company’s intention of realizing the archipelago as a digital talent hub worldwide. Through our innovations, we look forward to unlocking tremendous opportunities for the country’s tech workers to work equally anywhere with more adequate capabilities,” added Shantika.
For this reason, to point out this gap, Shantika emphasized the company will continue to improve its world-class curriculum and learning methods. The startup also conducts link-and-match services to companies in Indonesia, Singapore, and the US looking for tech talents by allowing them to work remotely with sufficient capabilities.
Established in 2017, this startup, Binar Academy, focuses on providing digital skills training through a series of programs, including bootcamps, digital talent accelerators, and talent distribution to technology companies. Hitherto, Binar startup claims to have produced over 180,000 digital talents and distributed them to more than 1,100 business partners, including BCA, Bank Mandiri, Tokopedia, and Traveloka.
Previously, this edtech also secured its Pre-Series A investment worth US$3.5 million in 2022. The fund came from several investors, covering iGlobe Partners, Cellar Capital Partners, Spaze Ventures, YCAB Ventures, and Teja Ventures.
Taking part in this investment round, NBA star Jeremy invested in this startup through JLIN Capital Studio, an investment company focused on impact investing in Asia and the Americas. “I believe that empowerment can be achieved through collaborative moves. Everyone deserves the equivalent opportunity to succeed, and I intend to unlock plenty of chances for Indonesians to advance their careers in the digital sector.” Jeremy said, as cited in e27.
