(ADS) Heaptalk, Jakarta — Digital transformation is an inevitable phenomenon, whereby this momentum continues to create new trends from diverse technologies coupled with increasing community requisites. As one of the soaring technologies in its implementation, the cloud is considered the primary driving factor of digital transformation in businesses in recent years. This trend is forecasted to boom hand in hand with the presence of other advanced technologies, covering artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and blockchain.

According to IDC Indonesia, the cloud market in the archipelago possesses the potential of USD1.38 billion in 2025, enhanced by 20.5% compared to the previous growth year on year. This escalation is driven by several factors, including business priorities focusing on digital acceleration by optimizing cloud technology for more profitability and business agility.

“The basic foundation of digital transformation is the adoption of cloud technology. If we talk about the digital realms, it is certainly related to data, whereby people would save their data in the cloud platform. For this reason, cloud adoption will continue to enhance following the increasing society’s need,” affirmed the Chief Executive Officer of desktopIP, Phidi Soepangkat.

In his further statement, Phidi also elaborated on the appearance of AI being closely linked to harnessing cloud technology, eventually boosting the security business. As is well known, the simplicity of gaining data and information leads people to go the extra mile to protect their privacy.

Despite the aggressive growth of cloud technology, desktopIP’s Chief Operating Officer, Hermi Putra, still found several challenges. From an industry perspective, he viewed that the abundant availability of digital tools and services has shaped the complexity of selecting tools and services that suit the company’s needs.

On the other hand, he perceived that cloud adoption has accelerated monthly subscription models for installing supporting applications and other services. This allows companies to manage operational costs more efficiently and flexibly without making a substantial upfront investment.

“Multiple behemoth companies utilize cloud technology with different approaches. They want to control operational costs by choosing an on-premise scheme while running their own cloud platform,” Hermi said in his statement.

Barrier and its impact on Indonesia’s society

Even though the encouragement to utilize digital technology continuously, Hermi considered Indonesian society’s literacy towards digital technology still needs to be improved.

As Hermi delivered, “There are still many backdoors in Indonesia. I noticed that digital transformation only creates applications instead of changing how we do things. Digital transformation is not about making all that presence but how we run the company digitally. That is why many people still miss the point of how to embark on this journey,”

Besides possessing challenges, Phidi highlighted technological trends’ impact on society and everyday life. According to him, using the cloud has shifted social interaction patterns. With simple access to information and communication, he sees that social isolation issues should be a concern as society has become more addicted to the simplicity of technology, making them avoid communicating in person.

“Everyone definitely wants to have a comfortable life, that is why technology continues to develop. Society is required to maintain their balance by increasing digital knowledge and adjusting themselves toward the emergence of new technology,” Phidi concluded.
