The meeting also aims to disclose a constructive suggestion devoted to the government entity arranging regulation properly to accelerate a fiber optic connectivity enhancement in Indonesia.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Telecommunications Network Operators Association (APJATEL) has conducted a National Working Meeting (Rakernas) in Jakarta (11/29). Adopting Acceleration, Collaboration, and Synergy in Indonesia’s Digital Transformation Sovereignty as the theme, this meeting is intended to boost digital technology adoption extensively and strengthen the telecommunication service in backing up the national economy, including through investment activity.
In implementing digital transformation, the availability of quality digital infrastructure is essential in reaching Indonesia’s regions. This matter also aligned with the instruction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, related to the internet access expansion, digital infrastructure improvement, and extensive internet services provision for the community in the country.
Responding to this matter, the Chairman of APJATEL, Jerry Siregar, affirmed, “This year, the APJATEL Rakernas would focus on the critical moves in bolstering and realizing the national digital transformation, one of which is the regulation arrangement comprehensively and nationally. We expect this national meeting can deliver essential points in terms of strategic guidelines to support the telecommunication infrastructure development in expediting the digital transformation in the country,”
However, In the further statement, Jerry added the APJATEL parties are still encountering several obstacles to distributing the telecommunication networks, impacting the digital infrastructure inhabiting the archipelago. He also elaborated on the primary issues that APJATEL faced, one of which was the rise of the rental prices of the Regional Government for the telecommunication networks deployment in the area, affecting the high cost of society for accessing the internet service.
Aligned with the obstacle, by conducting this national meeting agenda, Jerry hoped this agenda can unify the comprehension about the positioning of coverage and digital infrastructure capacity enhancement that impact the entire digital transformation achievement. He perceived a scientific analysis and study of the regulatory cost and expenses incurred would not bring negative effect to public services.
Concurrently, according to the Director General of Resources and Equipment of Post and Information Technology (SDPPI) of Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Technology Information, Ismail, the government has also performed coordination with other government entities in applying a roadshow with multiple associations to boost services towards the telecommunication industry, expecting to determine the resolution of these issues.
He also claimed the telecommunication industry has carried out its role by performing efficient and quality maintenance of the telecommunication networks. “This part is vital for us to increase the capability by up to 80%, hoping the telecommunications industry will expedite the development in Indonesia. Through this National Working Meeting agenda, I look forward to a constructive suggestion devoted to the government entity in arranging regulation properly to accelerate a fiber optic connectivity enhancement in Indonesia,” concluded Ismail.
