Currently, United Bike has two plants with production capacity of 1 million bicycles per year, 250,000 e-mopeds per year, and 250,000 e-motorbikes per year.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Bicycle and two-wheeled electric vehicle manufacturer, PT Terang Dunia Internusa (TDI), known as United Bike, is preparing a new production facility in an effort to expand its electric motorbike business portfolio.
Through the United E-Motor brand, the company targets a production capacity of 500,000 units per year, double the current capacity as reported by Kontan. To date, United E-Motor has produced four types, namely the T-1800, TX-1800, TX-3000, and MX-1200. The T1800 is the first type released in December 2020.
According to President Director of TDI Andrew Mulyadi, the opening of this new plant is a response to increasing market demand for electric bicycles and motorbikes. “This new plant will not only produce electric bicycles and motorbikes but also their components. The presence of this new plant is expected to add the production capacity of electric bicycles and motorbikes,” Andrew said as quoted by Kontan (09/21).
Currently, TDI has two production facilities located in Citeureup and Gunung Putri, Bogor Regency, West Java. Those facilities are capable of producing 1 million bicycles per year, 250,000 e-mopeds (electric pedal motorbikes) per year, and 250,000 e-motorbikes per year.
Exporting to Malaysia
Further, the company is optimistic about the prospects for electric vehicles in Indonesia, primarily two-wheelers. The Indonesian government has issued a policy regarding the expansion of recipients of the assistance program for purchasing battery-based two-wheeled electric motorbikes through Minister of Industry Regulation No. 21 of 2023.
This policy regulates the provision of one-time electric motorbike subsidies by Indonesians with the same identity card number. The four types of United E-Motor have been included in the subsidy program since they meet the domestic component content level (TKDN) of more than 40%.
Apart from the domestic market, the manufacturer also eyes foreign markets. In August 2023, TDI established a partnership with a company in Malaysia to become a distributor for United E-Motor. According to the TDI’s official statement, in the near future, United’s electric motorbikes will be exported to the neighboring country. Meanwhile, TDI is also exploring other countries for further export destinations.
