Jakarta, Heaptalk — Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno stated the momentum of Christmas holiday 2023 and New year 2024 contribute USD7.722 (USD1 equals Rp15,538) to the national economy.

The Minister stated in “The Weekly Brief With Sandi Uno” at the Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta regarding the national economy contribution, “Christmas and New Year are providing new data, and with the right tourist attractions management and wide access, then the Christmas and New Year’s holiday has gone according to projections and expectations, we have projected approximately for USD7.722 (USD1 equals Rp15,538) for the national economy.”

Minister Sandiaga declared based on the speculation, the visitors’ rise for the holiday can reach 107 – 110 million, with the majority of visitors doing the tourist activities.

“We see a potential of economy turnaround from hotel accommodation that reach the total of USD7.740 (USD1 equals Rp15,538), calculated from the occupancy around 70% for 10 days with the number of rooms based on BPS around 15.500, with the room price worth USD64,5 (USD1 equals Rp15,538), this projection becomes our reference,” said Minister Sandiaga.

Furthermore, Sandi revealed the monitoring survey for Christmas and New Year’s moment that took place on December 30 2023 – January 15 2024, where 934 local tourists respondents showed a shift of the tourists during Christmas and New Year’s.

For instance, local tourists preferred to stay with their relative’s; with the trip duration for 1-1,5 hour, more than 60 percent local tourists used private vehicles and millennial women dominated as the local tourists.

“And tourism within the City/Regency and outside the City/Regency within the province have become the most popular choice compared to other destinations. Natural tourism like mountains, zoos, and family cuisine are still the most favorite ones,” said the Minister.

Conversely, under this opportunity, Head of the Tourism Department for Bali Province, Tjok Bagus Pemayun, elaborated that foreign tourists visiting Bali until the end of 2023 reached a total of 5.328.238 people. This exceeds the target set by Minister Sandiaga for 4,5 million visitors. In addition, local tourists that visited Bali reached a total of 9.877.911.

Tjok Bagus also explained the situation in Bali during the Christmas and New Year concerning the traffic that took place along the route to I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport. He explained that there were a number of souvenir center locations that have restricted parking space availability, which then allocated a portion of the road for parking purposes.

“With the previous traffic experience, that surely became an evaluation for us so that such an uneventful experience would not be repeated again, if we compare the number of vehicles at the end of the year. Honestly, the number of vehicles in Christmas was a lot higher, but as the Transportation Minister stated, there were still some souvenir center locations that have limited parking space availability that also took the road for parking purposes, we definitely took note from it,” concluded Tjok Bagus.
