Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s manufacturing sector continues to be the main driver of the national economy. In the second quarter of 2024, Indonesia’s GDP growth reached 5.05%, higher than many G20 member countries, such as China, Russia, and Brazil. The non-oil and gas processing industry remains the most significant contributor to the national gross domestic product (GDP), with 16.70%, and the sector’s growth reached 4.63%.
Meanwhile, according to World Bank data, Indonesia’s Manufacturing Value Added (MVA) ranked 12th globally, valued at US$255 billion in 2023. This achievement places Indonesia ahead of other ASEAN countries such as Thailand and Vietnam. It surpasses several significant countries, such as the United States, Japan, Germany, South Korea, France, and the United Kingdom.
“The excellent performance of the manufacturing sector is also driven by the acceleration of the implementation of the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap. This is a key strategy for Indonesia to become one of the world’s top 10 economies by 2030,” said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita during the event titled Strengthening Industry Through Technology Optimization, Industrial Technology Pioneer (Rintek) Awards and Indi 4.0 Awards 2024 in Jakarta, Tuesday (10/01).

Therefore, the Making Indonesia 4.0 program has emphasized the importance of transforming towards Industry 4.0 since 2018. This is the main key to making Indonesia one of the world’s top 10 economies by 2030.
On this occasion, Agus Gumiwang appreciated the survey report on 76 industries that have earned the Champion Indi 4.0 award for achieving positive results in their efforts to implement the Industry 4.0 transformation. These champion industries have met transformation criteria, including reducing energy consumption by 4-40%, increasing productivity by 5-22%, and lowering production costs by 3-78%.
“I am pleased that today, 24 more industries have joined the Champion Indi 4.0, bringing the total to 100 Champion Indi 4.0 industries. I hope that next year the number will increase by at least 50 industrial companies, but still with strict criteria,” Agus stated.
In addition, Agus encouraged the industries involved in the Champion Indi 4.0 program to remain consistent in their transformation towards Industry 4.0. That way, more industries in the future are expected to become models as lighthouse industries both on a national and global scale, joining the Global Lighthouse Network-World Economic Forum (WEF). “Let us use the sixth anniversary of the Making Indonesia 4.0 program as a momentum to accelerate the achievements of our manufacturing sector’s transformation,” he concluded.
