Heaptalk, Jakarta — Communication and Information Technology Minister Budi Arie Setiadi requires the providers of fixed broadband services for close networks to stop selling services under 100 Mbps in the future.
“Internet is the primary necessity, why (providers) still sell the package in the speed of 5 Mbps and 10 Mbps for fixed internet broadband? Why they don’t directly sell internet with a speed of 100 Mbps? For this reason, I will make a regulation which requires them (internet providers) to sell fixed internet broadband with the speed of 100 Mbps,” voiced Minister Budi.
Responding to Kominfo‘s plan, SVP-Head of Corporate Communications of IOH Steve Saerang, in its press release (01/20), stated that the company supported the government effort to enhance Indonesia’s digital competitiveness globally.
“Regarding internet fixed broadband, today, all consumers of Indosat HiFi and MNC Play powered by Indosat are equipped with Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), and the devices can handle internet speed of 100 Mbps,” stated Steve.
Meanwhile, XL Axiata, who recently drove fixed broadband services, stated that the company is still conducting a review of this plan.
“We still conduct internal review and discussion to this plan,” stated Head of External Communication of XL Axiata Henry Wijayanto.
VP of Home Broadband FMC Cosumer Marketing of Telkomsel, Dedi Suherman in official an release stated that the provider appreciates Kominfo’s plan.
“This will impact the strengthening and the utilization of the digital ecosystem, which can open more opportunities for society,” Dedi continued, “indiHome offers a fixed broadband package with a speed over 100Mbps with competitive prices.”
According to Dedi, the presence of this future regulation is the right measure to meet people’s needs. This regulation also will open new opportunities and drive the growth of creative digital industry which can contribute to national digital economy.
