PT Cilacap Samudera Fishing Company Tbk. received high demand from the domestic market for pelagic fish, including mackerel, skipjack, and tuna.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Indonesian fishery company PT Cilacap Samudera Fishing Industry Tbk. (ticker code ASHA) contributed to a positive performance of Indonesia’s fisheries sector in 2022 by demonstrating a 46% revenue enhancement during January-September 2022 compared to 2021.
This attainment was embodied when the Company amplified its export activities in Asia, with China, Japan, and Taiwan as the main markets.
From this achievement, ASHA automatically contributed to the excellent achievement of Indonesia’s fishery exports in 2022. The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries recorded that the export value of fisheries for the January-November 2022 period reached US$5.71 billion, an increase of 10.66% compared to the same period in 2021.
As a further strategy, President Director of ASHA William Sutioso stated that the Company does not only focus on the export market but also taps into a bigger domestic market opportunity in Indonesia.
“I see that domestic consumption of fish remains high, particularly pelagic fish, such as mackerel, skipjack, and tuna,” said Sutioso. This pelagic fish commodity became CSFI’s priority in 2022 for both the domestic and export markets.
In 2023, the Company will focus on reinforcing upstream fisheries to overcome many challenges. He revealed that the fishery supply always becomes the primary issue as the commodity stock was influenced by weather conditions.
“The weather at the end and beginning of the year tends to be bad, resulting in fishermen docking their boats at the port,” conveyed Sutioso. “Forcing out to sea in bad weather is likely to result in erratic catches. This will cause costs to be too high”.
Despite this huge challenge, Sutioso is optimistic that the fisheries sector in 2023 will show better performance than the previous year.
