Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesian Minister of Trade, Budi Santoso, recently dispatched 400,000 processed food products produced by PT Mayora Indah Tbk to 15 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and other regions. This shipment, valued at USD1 million (around Rp15.70 billion).
Minister Budi commended the steadfast commitment of Indonesian exporters, particularly as this latest export effort targets non-traditional markets. This measure aligns with the Ministry of Trade’s ongoing policy to broaden export destinations for Indonesian products, ensuring they reach a more diversified global audience.
“Expanding export markets is one of the Ministry of Trade’s three primary programs. The Mayora company has successfully extended its exports to non-traditional markets, which is precisely to open new frontiers for Indonesian products in previously untapped countries,” Minister Budi affirmed.
The exported items include a variety of confectionery products, such as biscuits, wafers, candies, and instant coffee. The 15 destination countries span a wide geographic range, including Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, South Africa, Madagascar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Armenia, and Australia.
Trade Minister underscored that enhancing the competitive edge of Indonesian products is essential to dominate both domestic and international markets. He emphasized that the strength of Indonesia’s domestic market should inspire local brands to establish a strong foothold within the country before reaching global heights.
The Minister continues to support local entrepreneurs in bolstering their competitiveness. In addition, his parties continues working to secure the domestic market through various regulatory and trade instruments.
Looking ahead, Minister Budi believed that exporters would increasingly tap into non-traditional markets, many of which have become accessible through recent trade agreements between Indonesia and partner nations. He highlighted three upcoming trade agreements with Canada, Peru, and Eurasia, which are expected to conclude shortly.
To foster export growth among local MSME players, the Ministry has initiated the “MSMEs Dare to Innovate, Ready to Adapt for Export” program, designed to encourage more MSMEs to venture into the export market.
Andre Sukendra Atmadja, President Director of PT Mayora Indah Tbk., noted that Mayora Group’s achievements underscore that Indonesian products can thrive on the global stage. Reflecting the government’s vision to bolster export commodities, Mayora Group has now launched its 400,000 export container, delivering goods to 15 nations simultaneously.
“Mayora strives to prove that Indonesia is more than a manufacturing base for foreign brands. We can develop our own brands, our own products, and become market leaders internationally. Our mission is to demonstrate that Indonesian-branded products are of world-class quality, elevating Indonesia’s reputation and pride on the global stage,” Andre affirmed.
Despite a slowdown in the global economy, demand for processed food products is anticipated to grow at a steady rate of 7.74% through 2029, driven by the world’s increasing population. This expansive market presents a significant growth opportunity for players in the food industry looking to expand their reach.
