Preserving local arts, West Kutai Govt hosts a traditional song singing competition

There were 18 participants who performed in the West Kutai traditional song singing competition and were divided into two categories, spanning men and women.

Heaptalk, Jakarta — West Kutai Regency Government through the Tourism Department organized a traditional song singing competition that took place at Sendawar Cultural Park, Barong Tongkok District.

As part of the celebration of West Kutai’s 24th anniversary, this competition aims to preserve traditional songs while promoting the regency’s unique arts and culture. According to the Head of the East Kutai Tourism Department Yuyun Diah Setiorini, this traditional song singing competition was open to all groups and had no age limit. Anyone could take part in the competition, whether individuals, groups, communities, schools, as well as art and culture lovers of all ages.

In total, there were 18 participants performed in this competition and were divided into two categories, spanning men and women. However, the judges only chose 6 winners. There are 3 judges involved in this traditional song singing competition, namely Bien Piter, Heri, and Tobi. According to them, all participants performed very well.

At the end of the competition, the judges announced the winners of the men’s category, namely first place Yohanes, second place Neti Liasyah Parni, and third place Ari Setiawan. Meanwhile, the winners in the women’s category were first place Meris Rutgloria, second place Miska, and third place Seri.

Yuyun further congratulated the winners and asked them to maintain their achievements while promoting West Kutai regency through traditional songs. For those who have not won, he asked them not to be sad and to continue practicing as there are many opportunities to become singers and win the singing competition. (Translated by Sinta)
