Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s President, Prabowo Subianto, officially appointed Rachmat Pambudi as the new Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, replacing Suharso Monoarfa.
Born in Yogyakarta on December 23, 1956, Rachmat Pambudi has had a long career in agriculture and development, mainly through his involvement in the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association (HKTI). He served as the Secretary General of HKTI in 2006 when Prabowo Subianto was its chairman.
In 2015, Rachmat was promoted to vice chairman of the HKTI supervisory board. In 2016, he founded the Agricultural Monitoring and Oversight Committee of Indonesia (KP3I), where he also served as chief advisor.
Rachmat Pambudi has also held leadership roles within other agricultural organizations, notably as Chairman of the Central Leadership Board of the Nahdlatul Ulama Agricultural Development Institute (LP2NU).
Rachmat Pambudi earned a doctorate in Development Counseling from Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) at IPB. As a member of the Gerindra Party, he holds the title of professor in the same faculty at IPB University. Rachmat has also ventured into the corporate world alongside his academic work, serving as an Independent Commissioner at PT Nusantara Sawit Sejahtera (NSS) Tbk since 2018.
Rachmat’s experience in government is substantial. He previously held a structural position within the Ministry of Agriculture under Minister Bungaran Saragih in 2004. He was once considered for a position in President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s second-term cabinet (2009-2014). However, Rachmat did not join the cabinet due to Gerindra’s decision not to participate in the SBY administration.
As of his latest asset disclosure in the State Official Wealth Report, Rachmat Pambudi’s total wealth is US$775.742, approximately Rp12.025 billion. With a distinguished background in agriculture, academia, and corporate governance, he is expected to play a key role in shaping Indonesia’s national development strategy for the next five years.
