Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Ministry of Industry applauded Samsung Electronics Indonesia for its investments and efforts to increase the domestic content level (TKDN) in various electronic products, particularly mobile phones and tablets. This visit also aimed to boost domestic content and support electronic product export growth to the global market.
“The visit also aims to encourage the increase in domestic content level and support the growth of electronic product exports to the global market,” stated Setia Diarta, Director General of the Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industry (ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry, in Cikarang, West Java, on Tuesday (01/07).
The Ministry recognized Samsung’s commitment to meeting domestic content-level requirements, strengthening local industry, creating jobs, and facilitating technology transfer. Indonesia’s domestic content level policy currently mandates a minimum of 35% local content for mobile phones and tablets. Samsung Electronics Indonesia recorded the highest domestic content level of 40.30% for the model SM-A356E.
Since implementing the 35% domestic content level threshold, the domestic mobile, handheld computer, and tablet industries have grown significantly, reducing imports. In 2023, domestic production reached 50 million units, with only 3.1 million imported, making 94% of the products locally produced.
Samsung Electronics Indonesia produced 14 million units in that year, accounting for 28% of Indonesia’s total production in this sector. The company also achieved impressive export performance in 2024, exporting 1.56 million units to several ASEAN countries.
“We express our highest appreciation to PT Samsung Electronics Indonesia for exporting its smartphone products to the Philippines, which are part of the 1.56 million units exported by PT Samsung Electronics Indonesia. We continue to encourage PT SEIN to keep collaborating, creating, and developing high-tech products to build the domestic industry,” said Setia.
The Director General of the Ministry’s visit to the electronics manufacturer marks a pivotal moment in enhancing cooperation, improving product competitiveness, and accelerating Indonesia’s transformation towards a sustainable industrial economy.
