Heaptalk, Jakarta — In collaboration with PT Berau Coal, the Ministry of Housing and Settlement (PKP) recently held the groundbreaking ceremony for 500 Decent Housing Units (RLH) for the underprivileged in Berau Regency, East Kalimantan.

The Director of Public and Commercial Housing at the Directorate General of Housing of the Ministry of PKP, Fitrah Nur, explained that the initiative demonstrates the spirit of cooperation from the private sector in dealing with President Prabowo’s program to build 3 million homes in the archipelago.

“The Central Government, Provincial Government, and the Berau Regency Government could not carry out this program without the participation of private entities like PT Berau Coal, which is contributing to building 500 housing units in Berau Regency, spread across several locations,” Fitrah said.

She also looks forward to the private sector will continue. The government is reviewing regulatory revisions to expedite local government permits and encourage their active role in building housing for low-income communities.

“Easing the permit process aims to ensure that people can easily access the homes built by PT Berau Coal. I believe that the property sector will drive efficiency in development, and PT Berau Coal’s CSR initiative will significantly impact the surrounding community,” she said.

Meanwhile, Berau Coal Commissioner Edy Santoso emphasized the company’s commitment to prioritizing the community’s well-being. By building around 500 houses in Berau Regency through the National Movement for Mutual Cooperation in Building Homes for the People, we aim to make a tangible contribution to the community,” Edy said.

The 500 decent housing units are being constructed using PT Berau Coal’s CSR funds in affiliation with Indonesia’s Ministry of PKP. Specifically, the government will build 7 houses in Dusun Birang, 47 in Dusun Gurimbang, and 11 in Dusun Lati. The remaining locations are still being mapped with the Berau Regency Government. The houses, designed as type 45, will feature two bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a bathroom.
