Heaptalk, Jakarta — Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian explained that the inauguration of elected regional heads with no disputes will be held simultaneously with those whose disputes have been dismissed through a ruling by the Constitutional Court.
According to Constitutional Court Regulation Number 1 of 2025, established on January 24, 2025, the dismissal ruling for disputed regional heads is scheduled for February 4–5, 2025. This is earlier than the originally planned schedule in Constitutional Court Regulation Number 14 of 2024, which was set for February 11–13, 2025.
A dismissal ruling is a decision by the Constitutional Court determining whether the regional election dispute can proceed or be stopped. This will be the basis for the Regional General Election Commission (KPUD) to decide which candidates won the regional elections.
With the advancement of the dismissal ruling schedule, the inauguration of elected regional heads with no disputes, initially scheduled for February 6, 2025, will now be adjusted to wait for the ruling’s results. This move aims to make the inaugurations more simultaneous with a more significant number of them.
“We’ve reported to the President, and in principle, he (the President) has no objections if the inauguration of non-disputed regional heads is combined with those whose disputes have been dismissed in the ruling due to the short timeframe,” said the Minister of Home Affairs after a meeting with the Chairman of the Constitutional Court at the Constitutional Court Office in Jakarta on Friday (01/31).
The Minister of Home Affairs added that President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the inauguration of regional heads to be processed quickly. This ensures legal certainty in the regions and allows regional heads to start working for the people as soon as possible. Therefore, the Minister mentioned that his office is in continuous coordination with the General Election Commission (KPU) to study the Constitutional Court’s ruling.
“The President’s instructions to me are for non-disputed regional heads and those dismissed through the interim ruling to speed up the inauguration process. So, they can take office, have certainty, and start working for the people,” he explained.
The Minister stated that his office would coordinate with Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) to follow up on Monday (02/03). The goal is to quickly confirm the inauguration plans for the 2024 regional election winners. Additionally, to support this expedited process, the Minister said he would hold an online meeting with governors, provincial legislative council chairpersons, and provincial secretaries.
