Heaptalk, Jakarta — Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) will establish a working committee to address Sritex’s bankruptcy issues. Sritex is a textile company based in Sukoharjo, Central Java.
Saleh Partaonan Daulay, the Chairman of Commission VII, during his visit to Sritex in Sukoharjo, Central Java, on Thursday, stated that the committee would discuss how to rescue Indonesia’s troubled textile industry and those that could face future challenges.
“As suggested by my colleagues, Commission VII will form a working committee to delve deeper into various aspects of Indonesia’s textile industry, focusing both on the general situation and on companies facing or potentially facing problems,” he said.
He hoped this initiative would foster growth in Indonesia’s textile industry. “Competition is intensifying rapidly in Indonesia. Our country has the fourth-largest textile industry globally; hence, the market potential is immense,” he added.
Given this potential, he emphasized the importance of enhancing Indonesia’s textile industry to improve its competitiveness against foreign products.
PT Sritex’s President Director, Iwan Kurniawan Lukminto, mentioned that the textile industry, including Sritex, has been struggling in recent years. He hopes that the visit from DPR RI’s Commission VII will offer new hope for Sritex in overcoming its bankruptcy issues.
He acknowledged that Sritex’s bankruptcy status has significantly disrupted its operations. Sritex is currently filing an appeal with the Supreme Court (MA) as part of its legal efforts. “We hope the Supreme Court will grant our request and lift the bankruptcy status from Sritex,” he concluded.
