Heaptalk, Jakarta — Minyakita, the packaged cooking oil brand owned by the Ministry of Trade, has caught the President’s Executive Office (KSP) attention. Edy Priyono, Deputy III of the Chief of Staff, mentioned that the national average price of Minyakita has remained significantly above the highest retail price set by the government, Rp15,700 per liter.
“From our observations, the national average price of Minyakita is still well above the highest retail price. While some regions such as Jember, Sidenreng Rappang, Palu, Majene, and Ogan are adhering to the set highest retail price, these instances are rare,” said Edy during the Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting in Jakarta on Monday (01/20).
Furthermore, Edy highlighted that in Mesuji, one of the areas with the lowest prices, Minyakita is sold at Rp16,000 per liter. “If it is Rp16,000, it is still acceptable but above the highest retail price,” he added.
In the same meeting, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, Acting Head of the Statistics Indonesia (BPS), revealed that the average price of Minyakita in the third week of January 2025 reached Rp17,502 per liter. “Nationally, the average price of Minyakita in the third week of January 2025 is above the highest retail price. The price of cooking oil, including Minyakita, saw an increase of 0.95% compared to December 2024, with price increases occurring in 56.95% of Indonesia,” said Amalia.
In response to this situation, Iqbal Shoffan Shofwan, Director General of Domestic Trade at the Ministry of Trade, explained that they have issued Circular Letter No. 03 of 2025. This letter instructs local markets and Minyakita retailers to put up banners with information on the highest retail price at sales locations. Iqbal said, “This is to ensure consumers are aware of the official Minyakita prices, thus aiding in monitoring.”
Furthermore, the Ministry of Trade is also intensifying retailer registration in the Bulk Cooking Oil Information System (Simirah). Iqbal considered Minyakita’s high market prices, surpassing the highest retail price, to be due to many unregistered retailers in Simirah receiving supplies from other retailers, resulting in significantly higher consumer prices.
