The coordination meeting between Livestock Division with Puskeswan and RPH discussed the agenda for accelerating vaccination against foot and mouth disease in East Kutai.

Heaptalk, Jakarta — The East Kutai Food Crops, Horticulture and Livestock Department (DTPHP) through the Livestock Division held a coordination meeting with the animal health centers (Puskeswan) and slaughterhouses (RPH) in the Tempudau Room, East Kutai Regent’s Office (05/31). Participants consisted of livestock extension workers at the animal health centers and slaughterhouses in East Kutai.

The activity discussed the agenda for accelerating vaccination against foot and mouth disease (FMD) in the regency. Head of Livestock and Animal Health Division of DTPHP East Kutai, drh. A. Kurniawan Dewan, said that the agenda for the coordination meeting included the target of vaccination for foot and mouth disease, jembrana vaccination, and rabies vaccination as well as the target for artificial insemination for cattle.

Responding to the rampant spread of foot and mouth disease, Kurniawan stated that his party is carrying out livestock safety procedures through a vaccination program that has entered phases 2 and 3 (boosters). According to him, if all livestock in East Kutai has been vaccinated, the foot and mouth disease attacks are expected to be prevented or even eradicated.

Kurniawan voiced, “Vaccination has been carried out on approximately 15 thousand cows last year. This year there are 15 thousand cows that will be vaccinated.”

Further, this coordination meeting is one of the efforts to integrate cattle and food crops as well as cattle and horticultural crops. “They use the manure, we use the biomass for cattle feed. This activity also discussed the problems and solutions that occurred in East Kutai,” said Kurniawan.

Thus, he hopes the cattle population in East Kutai can increase and then encourage the welfare of farmers. In addition to the income from the cows themselves, it is possible for farmers to obtain income from the processing of solid fertilizers, solid organic fertilizers, and liquid organic fertilizers.
