Heaptalk, Jakarta — East Kutai held the Open Race 2022 at a non-permanent circuit in the Bukit Pelangi Central Office Complex area for two days on November 19-20, 2022. Vice Regent Kasmidi Bulang officially opened the event which was initiated by the East Kutai Regional Coordinator of the Indonesian Motorbike Association (IMI) (11/19).
Motor racing is one of the sports contested in the VII East Kalimantan Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) in Berau. Kasmidi expected that East Kutai athletes in motor racing can bring home the best achievements.
“One of the contested is motor racing. We hosted the previous provincial sports week at Sangatta and we became the grand champion. Hopefully, all the athletes, officials, and managers will fight for the motor racing in the provincial sports week 2022,” said Kasmidi.
Furthermore, Kasmidi said that the number of covid-19 cases in Indonesia has decreased, resulting in a loosening regulation of public activity. The community can hold activities with many people gathered, including holding motorbike racing events. He said, “This is where you can show your skills as here you have to wear a helmet, racing suit, gloves, and shoes. In addition, the motorbike has to be standardized as well.”
According to the Head of the 2022 Open Race Committee Rendy Jayana, the event returns after about three years of vacuum due to the covid-19 pandemic. The competition is attended by 107 participants, 304 starters, and 24 classes. “Participants come from Balikpapan, Tenggarong, Samarinda, Bontang, East Kutai, and Sulawesi,” said Rendy.
He expected that the event can bring a positive impact on young people who are fond of motor racing to hone their skills on proper circuits, not in wild races. Apart from that, the 2022 Open Race is also a preparation for participating in the VII East Kalimantan Provincial Sports Week in Berau.
