The socialization of the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility-Carbon Fund (FCPF-CF) program aims to provide a common perception to all stakeholders in implementing the program.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — The East Kutai Regency Secretariat through its Natural Resources (SDA) Section held a socialization activity for the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility-Carbon Fund (FCPF-CF) program, held at the Royal Victoria Hotel (05/11).
This activity is part of a forest and land-based greenhouse gas emission reduction program facilitated by the World Bank’s forest carbon partnership. Participated by 18 regional apparatus representatives, the socialization was commenced by Expert Staff for Law, Governance, and Politics at the East Kutai Regency Secretariat, Tejo Yuwono.
According to Tejo, the environment is still a central issue discussed by the world community. Currently, we are facing climate change on a global scale which has an impact on the sustainability of human life and the balance of ecosystems. The impacts can pose significant risks to human health, food security, and sustainable economic development.
Moreover, erratic climate change is currently affecting almost all countries in the world. Tejo suspected that this is due, in part, to the increasing need for land in line with population growth and the expansion of sectoral and regional development interests. This triggers a change in the status and function of the forest to become a more open area.
“Observing this phenomenon, concrete steps are needed to avoid a humanitarian disaster and greater losses, one of which is by running a program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This is one of the strategic ways to anticipate climate change, land and forest deforestation, and forest degradation. Thus, there is a need for outreach to all parties,” said Tejo.
Further, Tejo believes that this socialization activity is substantial to building a shared awareness that involves all entities directly involved. He appealed to all related parties to maintain synergy in the implementation of the FCPF-CF program in East Kutai.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Natural Resources Section of the East Kutai Regency Secretariat, Arif Nur Wahyuni, said this socialization aims to provide a common perception to all stakeholders in implementing the FCPF-CF program by presenting several speakers from the Provincial Economic Bureau as well as Forestry and Environment Experts East Kalimantan Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda).
“As many as 83 villages in East Kutai will be the target of the FCPF-CF program and will be the first to be implemented in East Kalimantan Province,” concluded Arif.
