May Day in East Kutai was commemorated by organizing a gathering event that consisted of several activities, spanning discussions, blood donations, and door prizes.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — International Labor Day in East Kutai was commemorated by holding a gathering event of all labor organizations in the regency to maintain fellowship and convey workers’ aspirations to the government.
This May Day event was organized by the Government of East Kutai Regency and the Regional Leader Coordinating Forum (Forkopimda) which took place in the Ilham Maulana Polder area, Sangatta City. “Thank God, the East Kutai Regency Government and Forkopimda planned this Labor Day (commemoration) well by inviting all labor organizations in East Kutai for togetherness or fellowship,” said Ardiansyah.
Further, the commemoration of May Day was also enlivened by blood donation activities and a discussion attended by workers, policymakers, and other related parties. Ardiansyah said, “We are giving time and space, hopefully in the later discussion we can provide input and it will be accepted.”
In addition, the event committee also gave door prizes for two motorcycle units to the lucky workers. “This is extraordinary, appreciation for all workers. They are very happy as they get a lot of benefits from this activity,” said Ardiansyah.
According to the chairman of the May Day commemoration committee, Hamka, the workers submitted six demands, spanning:
- Repeal Law no. 6 of 2023 and its derivative government regulations;
- Immediately issue a regent regulation regarding the labor recruitment system;
- Eliminate contract work and outsourcing systems;
- Stop low wages, apply a decent national wage (ULN);
- Realize genuine agrarian reform;
- Stop the grabbing of customary lands and other agrarian resources.
