Heaptalk, Jakarta — Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto emphasized the importance of digitalizing government systems to narrow the space for corruption. According to him, digitalization is a strategic step in preventing corruption by minimizing human roles, prioritizing technology, and system-based supervision.
“I strongly believe that in the realm of prevention, promoting the digitalization of electronic government systems minimizes human roles [and] prioritizes technology,” said Bima during the screening of the film on Corruption Prevention titled Nyanyi Sunyi Dalam Rantang held at Djakarta Theater, Jakarta, on Monday (12/09).
However, Bima also emphasized that using technology alone is not sufficient. He believes that public oversight and collaboration between multiple parties must continue to be strengthened to ensure optimal anti-corruption efforts. He said, “So I think we share roles, but what needs to be continuously encouraged and strengthened is the public, civil society, citizens, artists, everyone who must not slack off in providing space.”
Bima also appreciated the film Nyanyi Sunyi dalam Rantang, which provides education and a realistic depiction of the impact of corruption on society. He hopes that regional heads and officials throughout Indonesia will watch this film to increase awareness of this significant impact.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) prevents corruption through collaborative programs with the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP). These programs aim to ensure that regional governments, both provincial, city, and district, focus on strengthening anti-corruption instruments. He added, “So from the planning stage, and we usually assess that if the government has a good MCP, it is announced, and it becomes an end-of-year reward and recognition.”
In addition, Bima reminded us of the importance of evaluating the effectiveness of the Monitoring Center for Prevention (MCP). “But again, this is administrative. We must first delve into what the impact is. If the MCP is high, does it ensure no more fraud, corruption, gratuities, and so on?” he concluded.
