Heaptalk, Jakarta — The National Border Management Agency (BNPP) held a coordination meeting to manage and control national borders for 2020-2024 in Jakarta (06/05). In his opening remarks, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian instructed local governments to allocate budgets for border area development.
“The Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) is drafted according to the needs and administration of local governments based on regional authority, guided by the Regional Work Plan (RKPD) to provide services to the community,” Tito said in Jakarta on June 5th.
Currently, BNPP coordinates the development of border areas carried out by 27 ministries/agencies and 15 border provinces. He stated, “We suggest listening to the regions (border areas) to understand what they actually need to strengthen their local development.”
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto, who serves as the Chairman of BNPP, explained that the Ministry of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs is paying close attention to implementing border development programs. The year 2024 marks the final year of implementing the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2020-2024 and the Master Plan for the Management of National Borders and Border Areas (PBWN-KP) 2020-2024.
With the end of RPJMN and the Master Plan, this coordination meeting becomes a strategic forum for comprehensively evaluating the implementation of PBWN-KP policies, which have been actualized in the work programs of ministries/agencies from 2020 to 2024. “Through the implementation of this coordination meeting, it is expected to produce policy directions and strategies for the future, which will be set as the Development Plan for 2025-2029, both in the RPJMN and the Master Plan for PBWN-KP comprehensively,” Hadi explained.
Aligned with President Joko Widodo’s Nawacita, launched at the beginning of his leadership in 2014, which is ‘Developing from the Periphery,’ the state is present to transform border areas, often considered as Indonesia’s backyard, into a proud front porch. “Therefore, border areas represent the manifestation of national sovereignty, holding strategic value related to dignity, honor, territorial integrity, and national sovereignty,” Hadi concluded.
