Heaptalk, Jakarta — The construction of the mass rapid transit (MRT) transportation mode is planned to connect Jakarta and South Tangerang City. In response, South Tangerang Mayor Benyamin Davnie expressed his optimism and welcomed the construction plan if it could be well realized.
However, there has been no further discussion thus far. “However, if we discuss using the Regional Budget later, we will object,” explained Benyamin Davnie in his press release on Monday (04/22).
The MRT construction project in the South Tangerang area is estimated to cost Rp20 trillion, approximately US$1.2 billion (US$1 equals Rp16,236). According to him, this figure exceeds the South Tangerang City Government’s Regional Budget capacity of only Rp4.6 trillion annually, or around US$283.2 million.
Therefore, thoughtful and in-depth discussions must be initiated between the South Tangerang City Government and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. This collaborative effort is essential to ensure that the MRT line can cover the area, address budget issues, and detail plans for the MRT construction.
“In the future, we hope that joint discussions can be held regarding development details and techniques. “Apart from that, both parties also need to agree on several policies, making the project run sustainably,” he added. According to him, the presence of the MRT in the South Tangerang area will align with the Jakarta Special Region agglomeration concept. Because, in this concept, the area will be a supporter and buffer for Jakarta.
