Heaptalk, Jakarta — The largest furniture exhibition in Indonesia, the Indonesia International Furniture Expo (IFEX) 2025, officially opened on Thursday (06/03).
In his opening remarks, Abdul Sobur, Chairman of the Indonesian Furniture and Craft Industry Association (HIMKI), stated that the exhibition, running from Thursday (06/03) to Sunday (06/09), is targeting $1 billion in transactions following the event, including follow-up deals.
Another target is to achieve $300,000 in transactions during the exhibition itself. “For transactions during the exhibition, the average is around $300,000, or approximately Rp4.5 trillion. However, the largest portion usually comes afterward,” said Abdul.
Abdul further explained that the follow-up transaction target supports about 60% of Indonesia’s total furniture industry exports over a year. He noted that Indonesia’s furniture exports 2024 amounted to $2.5 billion. “So, 60% of our national exports are indeed supported by this exhibition,” he emphasized.
Additionally, Abdul highlighted that the furniture and craft industry is highly strategic. Besides being labor-intensive, it is also a creative-based industry with long-term sustainability. He hopes the government can assist in addressing regulatory hurdles to support the industry’s growth.
“We hope the government can help with regulations that hinder industry growth, such as those related to the Timber Legality Verification System (SVLK). We propose that SVLK only be applied upstream. This would sufficiently demonstrate that our furniture industry is environmentally conscious,” said Sobur.
Meanwhile, Daswar Marpaung, President Director of PT Dyandra Promosindo, mentioned that IFEX 2025 marks the 10th edition of the event in Indonesia. At the exhibition, visitors can explore offerings from over 500 furniture businesses. Around 3,000 furniture pieces made from rattan, wood, bamboo, and bark are showcased at the event.
“To view premium products at IFEX, visitors can register online. Meanwhile, to explore more about the products on display, visitors can access IFEX Indonesia page,” he concluded.
