In the event, Indonesian Heart Foundation (YJI), together with Association of Indonesian Cardiologists and Blood Vessel Specialists (PERKI) hold workshop, First Aid Training, and 7 km healthy walk (Heart Walk)
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Heart disease is not a contagious disease, but become the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in Indonesia. Commemorating World Heart Day which falls on September 29th, Indonesian Heart Foundation (YJI), together with Association of Indonesian Cardiologists and Blood Vessel Specialists (PERKI) organized an agenda to educate society about the importance of maintaining a lifestyle to prevent heart disease and cardiovascular disease.
“Today, heart disease is still the leading cause of death worldwide. According to WHO, coronary heart disease and stroke still contribute 16% of the causes of death. In 2020 there were around 20 million people in the world who died because of heart disease and stroke. This number is predicted to increase to 24.2 million people in 2030. Even so, this disease can be prevented and detected early by the community.” said the Chairman of PERKI, Radityo Prakoso at the press conference, on Tuesday (26/9).
Promoting society’s awareness about this disease, PERKI and YPI hold a workshop about how to feel your own pulse, known as MENARI. The founder of MENARI Yoga Yuniadi stated, “MENARI is the easy way to detect atrial fibrillation and other heart rhythm disorders which is expected to prevent further complications, such as stroke and heart failure.”
In addition to the workshop, YJI and PERKI also present other agendas such as First Aid Training, and 7 km healthy walk (Heart Walk). Organizing these activities, Chairman of Indonesian Heart Foundation, Esti Nurjadin explained, “Exercise is one of the most effective ways to maintain health. Apart from increasing endurance, exercise is also a healthy form of recreation and can reduce the risk of heart disease. One of the easiest physical activities is walking. Walking can provide various health benefits. More than that, walking is also of great benefit to our heart health.”
