Heaptalk, Jakarta — Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Teten Masduki, delivered that the furniture and crafts sector is a crucial pillar of Indonesia’s economy. This sector employs up to 143,000 workers and comprises more than 1,114 businesses.
“Moreover, data from the past five years shows that from 2018 to 2022, Indonesia’s furniture industry has consistently increased its exports. This condition is claimed as a positive signal for Indonesia to achieve the export target of USD5 billion,” explained Teten Masduki in his speech at the opening of the Furniture Industry Gathering by IFFINA at the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs office in South Jakarta. Based on this data, Teten aims to realize that furniture exports will reach USD5 billion or around Rp80 trillion (USD1 equal to USD16,000). “One of the ways to achieve this is through IFFINA 2024, which will be held from September 14-17 at ICE BSD,” said Teten.
Further, Teten said that IFFINA 2024 is an essential platform for players in the furniture, crafts, and design industries. Through the international exhibition event IFFINA + Indonesia Meubel & Design Expo 2024, it is hoped that the Indonesian furniture and crafts industry can be elevated to a broader level.
Additionally, an interesting feature of IFFINA 2024 is the presence of INTERZUM, a brand exhibition supporting the furniture industry, which will take place alongside IFFINA in Hall 9 at ICE BSD. “The collaboration between IFFINA and INTERZUM, focusing on products supporting the furniture industry, is expected to provide a complete package for industry players and visitors,” said the Chairman of Asmindo, Dedy Rochimat.
Dedy further stated, “The presence of IFFINA as a pioneer in organizing furniture and crafts exhibitions in the second circle is expected to encourage other ASEAN member countries to follow ASMINDO’s lead by holding similar international exhibitions. This can enhance the growth of a conducive ecosystem in the second circle in Southeast Asia.”
ASMINDO undertakes this initiative to meet the unmet global market demand for furniture and crafts and to create promising business opportunities for industry players. Dedy targets a 30% increase in the event from the previous year. The increase in transaction volume is also expected to rise by 30% compared to the previous year.
“ASMINDO is optimistic that this can be achieved through the increasing domestic demand for furniture and crafts, in line with the recovery of the domestic economy post-Covid-19. The tourism industry, particularly hospitality, is also improving to optimize domestic tourism potential. The development program of IKN also brings a fresh breeze for domestic furniture and craft industry players,” he concluded.
