GBN 2023 will feature around 250 booths of Indonesia’s culinary (5%) and Batik MSMEs (95%).

Heaptalk, Jakarta — After being postponed for three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indonesian Batik Foundation (YBI) is poised to hold its annual event, Gelar Batik Nusantara (GBN) 2023 on August 2nd – 6th, 2023, at SPARK Senayan, Jakarta.

The event will employ The Rise of Batik as the theme as the new spirit of advancing the batik industry in the archipelago. Unlike the previous year, Chief Executive for the GBN 2023, Diana Santoso, revealed that GBN 2023 would showcase new peculiar batik products for home interiors as inspiration for batik ornaments.

“This event is different from other batik exhibitions where it carries batik inspiration which can be used as a trendsetter in this industry. At GBN 2023, we will present batik products for home interiors or in-home living,” explained Diana.

Aligned with the recognition from UNESCO through Intangible Cultural Heritage accreditation No.90487 devoted to YBI as a non-profit foundation, it confirms YBI’s role in preserving, developing, and promoting Indonesia’s batik cultural heritage nationally and internationally.

Concurrently, this batik exhibition will highlight the beauty of Complongan-written batik from Indramayu. This product has received Geographical Indication recognition, representing art and cultural expertise passed down from generation to generation in the area. This collaboration is expected to increase public awareness of the uniqueness of this batik.

According to the Chairman of the Indonesian Batik Foundation (YBI), Gita Pratama Kartasasmita, this non-profit organization is active in promoting batik craft businesses through economic activities to add value which is eventually supporting equity and increase the income of traditional batik artisans and entrepreneurs.

In its implementation, GBN 2023 will feature around 250 booths of Indonesia’s culinary and Batik MSMEs, with a 95% portion of the Batik products displayed. Numerous attractive programs will also enliven this cultural agenda, spanning talk shows, batik competitions, high tea, and fashion show from six Indonesia designers to present their creations for Indramayu’s batik, such as Didi Budiarjo, Chossy Latu, Wilson William, Hutama Adi, Priyo Octaviano, Ghea Panggabean.

GBN 2023 will also collaborate with three interior designers in Indonesia, spanning Agam Riyadi, Anita Boentarman, and Hardian Thomas, to present Batik in Home and Living ornaments, which can inspire Indonesian people to use Batik as part of home interiors.

This event will also donate its proceeds to the Indonesian Cancer Foundation, the Regional Government of Indramayu, and an auction of Vespa Batik units from Piaggio Indonesia to empower women and cancer sufferers in the archipelago.
