Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT Proteksi has entered the lithium fire suppression technology sector through its new division, Lithguard. The division specializes in early-stage fire containment with single-response capabilities.
On Friday (05/02), Lithguard unveiled its groundbreaking EV-Drill (EVD), the world’s first device designed to extinguish electric vehicle (EV) fires in under 10 minutes. Unlike conventional methods, the EVD penetrates and cools EV battery packs simultaneously, addressing a critical challenge. “Water or standard extinguishing agents struggle to reach the underside of EVs, delaying fire suppression,” explained Eric Low, Director of Lithguard.
The EVD can be mounted on fire trucks or hydrants, delivering targeted cooling to battery compartments. Lithguard’s Auto-EVD detects fires for EV charging stations and autonomously positions itself beneath burning vehicles to suppress flames before firefighters arrive.
The EV Tombak Bor (EV Drill), now available in Indonesia, won a gold medal and special recognition at the 2024 Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions (Switzerland), along with a Fire Safety Industry Award from Indonesia’s Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform.
This demonstration is a more professional demonstration by PT Proteksi, a lithium firefighting specialist company. “Recently, the frequency of fires has also increased along with the increasing use of electric vehicles, so there needs to be thorough preparation to handle electric vehicle fires. We will try our best to respond quickly to save lives and also community assets,” concluded Eric.
