Heaptalk, Jakarta — Seven internet service providers (ISPs) are interested in offering an affordable 100 Mbps internet package priced at Rp100,000 monthly. Benny Elian, Coordinator for Digital Infrastructure Policy Implementation at the Ministry of Communication and Digital, revealed this after conducting a market interest survey among several telecommunications service providers.
“We have conducted an interest survey with more than ten providers, and at least seven providers have now expressed interest. So, we will move on to the selection mechanism,” said Benny in Jakarta on Monday (03/03).
As of Tuesday (03/04), Benny did not provide details about who these providers are. He only explained that they consist of cellular and fixed network ISPs, commonly known as cable internet providers. He said, “For the seven, I don’t remember clearly, but definitely some are cellular, and the rest are fiber optic providers that I can recall.”
On that occasion, he also explained that implementing the 1.4 GHz band improves fixed broadband, not only fiber optic. Examples include home internet modems. “But also those with static receivers at home, or simply put, using home modems,” Benny explained.
In addition, the implementation of 1.4 GHz is expected to make service prices more affordable. Thus, the services offered can target people with limited economic capacity. He said, “That is by paying Rp100,000-Rp150,000.” Benny is confident that the presence of 1.4 GHz can make the internet more accessible to all layers of society across Indonesia.
