Heaptalk, Jakarta — This year’s Dahau Festival in celebration of the 24th anniversary of West Kutai presents a new activity, namely the Sendawar Beauty Cat Show 2023, initiated by the West Kutai Agriculture Department.
The cat contest which was held at Luuq Tonyoi, Sendawar Cultural Park, Barong Tongkok District was participated by 71 cats from multiple districts in West Kutai (10/28). Various categories were contested at the Sendawar Beauty Cat Show 2023, including long tails, fashion shows, health, adult and children’s breeds, as well as domestic cats.
Assistant III for General Administration of the West Kutai Regency Secretariat Sahadi said that this event was the first cat contest held in West Kutai in the Dahau Festival series. “This kind of activity aims to introduce and promote the Department of Agriculture’s programs, not only including activities in the office but also other activities,” said Sahadi.
According to the judges, there are several assessment criteria. The first is general health which includes eyes, ears, nose, teeth, gums, skin, fur, weight, and muscles. Second, temperament includes alertness, gentleness, calmness, and personality. Lastly, treatment includes claw health, swimming, grooming, and excessive hair loss.
Meanwhile, the Head of the West Kutai Agriculture Department S. Alexander Samson said that the Sendawar Beauty Cat Show 2023 is one form of the Department’s attention to cats in the regency. In addition, cat diseases are also a concern for the Department, especially those that can be transmitted to humans, such as scabies, mange, and ringworms.
“The cat population is showing extraordinary development. Based on data from the Livestock Sector, in 2023, the cat population will reach 15,322,” concluded Alexander. (Translated by Sinta)
