Tesla Model Y SUV is available in the Malaysian market from 20 July with a starting price of RM199,000 and some lucrative tax deductions.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Tesla has arranged its first sale in Malaysia by introducing the Model Y SUV on July 20, 2023. The expected delivery date will be in the beginning of 2024 according to the company’s official statement.
Model Y is claimed to be the latest and most affordable electric SUV with prices starting at RM199,000 or approximately US$43,717 (US$1 equals RM4.55). All Model Y trims, spanning rear-wheel drive, long-range, and performance, will make their first public appearance at Center Court, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur on July 21-30, 2023.
“In line with Malaysia’s goal to promote low-carbon mobility and supporting the EV industry, you will enjoy full import and excise duties exemption for newly registered zero-emission Tesla electric vehicles,” Tesla stated.
In addition, customers can also obtain 100% tax exemption and individual income tax relief of up to RM2,500 on expenses related to EV charging facilities for the assessment year of 2023. Malaysian authorities also provide tax deductions for companies leasing non-commercial EVs on rental amounts up to RM300,000 from the 2023 to 2025 assessment year.
Virtual meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister
Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim announced that the electric vehicle-focused automotive company will establish its head office in Cyberjaya, Sepang District, Selangor this year (07/14), as reported by Technode Global. Prior to the announcement, Anwar met Tesla Founder and CEO Elon Musk virtually on that day.
Anwar welcomed Tesla’s interest and decision to invest in Malaysia and Elon Musk’s willingness to come to the country. Quoted by Technode Global, Anwar voiced, “I also congratulate and appreciate the government’s support for the opening of the headquarters, service center, and Tesla Experience Center owned by Elon in Selangor this year.”
According to Zigwheels, the company has specified ten locations to install its superchargers spread across six states, including Selangor (Petaling Jaya and Dengkil), Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Jalil, Bukit Bintang, and two additional locations), Johor (Iskandar Puteri), Perak (Ipoh), Negeri Sembilan, and Pulau Pinang (Perai).
