Stunting Summit serves as a means of coordination in preparing programs and activities that focus on reducing stunting rates, primarily in stunting locus villages.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — The East Kutai Regency Government through the Family Planning and Population Control Department (DPPKB) held a Stunting Summit through offline meeting in the Meranti Room, Regent’s Office and online meeting via Zoom (07/11).
This activity serves as a means of coordination in preparing programs and activities that focus on reducing stunting rates, primarily in stunting locus villages. Stunting Summit is one of the efforts to prevent stunting and accelerate the decline in stunting rates in every village in East Kutai.
Attending the summit, a representative of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) for East Kalimantan Province Aris Ananta said that President Joko Widodo had appointed BKKBN as the body responsible for leading the acceleration of reducing the stunting rate in Indonesia.
He said, “Children suffering from stunting can be caused by parenting style and family economy. Smaller family income may lead to inadequate provision of nutrition.” The reduction of the stunting rate is possible to be achieved by means of convergence through cooperation between the government, stakeholders, and the community.
Preparing regional apparatus budgets to overcome stunting
Meanwhile, the Acting Head of the East Kutai DPPKB Ronny Bonar Hamonangan Siburian explained that multiple suggestions for overcoming and preventing stunting were presented in this forum. He mentioned several matters discussed during the summit, “How much is the budget of each relevant regional apparatus to tackling stunting? With that budget, how many stunting rates have fallen, or how many stunted children have been assisted?”
Further, Ronny said that the stunting reduction task force stationed in East Kutai would collect data from all regional apparatus organizations. “Stunting Summit should be carried out prior to the development planning meeting, allowing regional apparatuses to propose their expected budget to overcome stunting,” he added.
Summit participants who attended offline included representatives of related regional apparatus organizations, the Family Welfare Empowerment Mobilization Team (TP PKK), Regional Leader Coordinating Forum (Forkopimda), CSR Forum, Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP), Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI), Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI), Head of North Sangatta District, Head of South Sangatta District, PT Kaltim Prima Coal, and PT Pamapersada Nusantara.
The online participants via Zoom were the East Kalimantan Provincial Health Department, district heads, village heads, Human Development Cadres (KPM), District Professional Assistance Teams (TPP), Village TPS, and Family Assistance Teams (TPK).
