Heaptalk, Jakarta – Indonesian company specializing in outdoor activities products, Eiger and Lazada Indonesia strengthen their collaboration to cope with the waste issues in the archipelago. This measure is performed to preserve the environment while achieving a sustainable business.
As an action to strengthen the cooperation, both parties introduce the new cardboard packaging that has held Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) license. This eco-friendly packaging is devoted to Eiger’s consumers who purchase the product through Lazada. In addition, Eiger also presents Eiger Green Project – a movement to collect upcycling products – that will be available exclusively only in Lazada.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries revealed Indonesia is the 2nd global plastic waste contributor in 2019, with 3.21 million metric tons/year. This data demonstrated a devastating issue that should be the priority concern. The issue appears aligned with society’s awareness of conserving nature. Derived from this issue, Eiger and Lazada carried out these measures to promote the eco-friendly campaign to increase people’s awareness of protecting their ‘home’.
GM Product and Sustainability Project Leader Eiger Adventure Harimula Muharam stated, “Perceiving Eiger’s business growth which increased significantly, particularly through Lazada, we realized that we contribute to the plastic waste issue from the wrapping material we use to the product. We are responsible for providing a sustainable shopping experience to our consumers.”
Through the cooperation, plastic-based bubble wrap will be replaced with honeycomb paper wrap made with recycled cardboard. The QR code, which contains Eiger and Lazada sustainability report, also will be included on cardboard.
“Lazada and Eiger have a similar vision concerning the sustainability attempt. For this reason, we welcome the continuation of this cooperation to promote an eco-friendly lifestyle. We hope this initiative can provide a green online shopping experience for our consumers and drive other brands to follow this path, namely to contribute to preserving nature,” said SVP Logistics Lazada Indonesia, Adiputra Wiharja.
Eiger Green Project, Upcycling Collection Vol 1
On the same occasion, Eiger also introduced Eiger Green Project through Upcycling Collection vol.1. The product of this campaign is made from a product that does not meet the standard to reduce industrial waste.
“Through the upcycling process, we deliver a second chance for a product that does not pass the requirement, then, we redesign and rework the product, put add value to the product to make it can be market fit,” stated Harimula.
He also added that in the following plan, consumers could contribute to this movement by sending their unused products to be sorted by Eiger, and reworked to be trendy products. In Eiger Upcycling Collection Vol 1, about 35 products will be recycled. The upcycling product is a limited product depending on the availability of the raw material and only be sold exclusively in Lazada.
